FDI General Assembly 2026: Key decisions from Prague
At the 2026 FDI World Dental Congress in Prague, FDI members came together for Parliament meetings and the General Assembly, where important decisions were taken on the organization’s priorities and future direction. Discover the key outcomes from Prague.
The General Assembly (GA) is FDI’s supreme legislative and governing body. Meeting once a year, it sets FDI’s policies, strategic direction, missions and objectives, and oversees progress towards their achievement.
The GA also approves the annual budget, establishes the annual subscription of the Regular Members, receives and takes necessary action on reports of the Council, and elects Regular, Associate, Affiliate and Supporting Members, Committee and Council members, as well as the Speaker of the GA.
This year, in Prague, the voting members of the GA took the following decisions:
FDI welcomes new associations to its membership
At the GA in Prague, voting members approved the admission of the following organizations to FDI membership, further expanding the global community represented within FDI.

The General Assembly in Prague also confirmed the following elections and re-elections to FDI’s Council and Standing Committees.
Council Members
Councillor – Prof. Dr Hiroshi Ogawa (Japan) – re-elected to his second term
Science Committee
Chair – Dr Wendy Thompson (UK)
Member – Dr Marcelo Araujo (USA) – elected to his first term
Member – Prof. Walter Yu-Hang Lam (Hong Kong, SAR China) – re-elected to his second term
Public Health Committee
Member – Dr Miguel Pavão (Portugal) – elected to his first term
New policy statements
FDI policy statements, which detail FDI’s position on issues of interest within the oral health community, are put together through consultation, discussion, and consensus among leading dental experts from around the world. This year, the GA adopted six policy statements:
1. Basic Dental Education
2. Bisphenol A
3. Lifelong Oral Health
4. Minimally Invasive Intervention for Caries Management (MIICM)
5. Radiation Safety in Dentistry
6. Research and Scientific Integrity in Oral Health
