The global burden of oral diseases remains alarmingly high, affecting nearly 3.5 billion people. Achieving universal oral health coverage by 2030 has therefore become a pressing priority, necessitating a multistakeholder approach.

Earlier this year, FDI released its Vision 2030: Advocacy in Action – The Role and Value of Industry report, which underscores the critical need to collaborate with industry actors involved in the manufacture of oral health goods and services to drive significant change. FDI is pleased to announce that this report is now available in both French and Spanish.

Partnerships for health, especially between actors in the public and private health sectors can raise the visibility of an unmet need, enhance coordination, facilitate funds and resources for low-resource settings, and provide platforms for increased impact. Sadly, while recent policy initiatives recognize the importance of private sector involvement in the global oral health agenda, a comprehensive understanding of their role has been lacking. FDI has taken concrete steps to address this gap.

In March 2023, FDI published a report to highlight how industry actors, especially by engaging in multistakeholder collaborations, can effectively help accelerate the delivery of optimal oral health for all. The report was developed through a consultative process involving representatives of industry, the World Health Organization (WHO), academia, and civil society under the supervision of FDI`s Vision 2030 Implementation and Monitoring Expert Group. It is available in English, French and Spanish.

At the 2024 FDI World Dental Congress (WDC24), partnerships for oral health will also be at the centre of some discussions. With the theme “Partnerships and alliances to bridge the oral healthcare gap”, the World Oral Health Forum (WOHF) 2024 will bring together speakers representing governments, national dental associations, WHO, the health workforce and industry actors to discuss the strengths of the different actors in the oral health system and how they can be leveraged for the achievement of optimal oral health for all. Join FDI President, Dr Greg Chadwick, and other distinguished speakers for WOHF 2024 on Saturday, 14th September during WDC24.
