- Professor Emeritus (Microbiomics) Lakshman Samaranayake is the :Past Dean of Dentistry, University of Hong Kong, as well as the School of Dentistry, University of Queensland, Australia
- He is also the Editor-in-Chief, the International Dental Journal – the flagship journal of the FDI International Dental Federation.
- He is the author of over 450 communications cited over 30,500 occasions (h-index 95), as well as seminal oral microbiology texts used by dental students and postgraduates the world over.
- He was also a past Chairman of the Science Committee, and a member of the FDI Council
