A huge challenge facing general dentists today is how to successfully manage periodontitis patients to achieve predictable treatment outcomes and long-term health.

Periodontal diseases significantly affect oral health and have enormous socioeconomic impacts and healthcare costs. They can have a huge impact on well-being and quality of life, leading to serious consequences such as problems with chewing, speaking and tooth loss.

Webinar Details
The FDI Global Periodontal Health Project (GPHP) expert panel (Prof. Stefan Renvert, Prof. David Herrera, Prof. Jöerg Meyle, and Prof. Lijian Jin) will update webinar attendees on the latest guidelines and recommendations in periodontology and define the essential steps for dentists and patients to achieve and maintain optimal periodontal health.

The experts will introduce the newly developed FDI Digital Disease Profile Assessment tool, which aligns with the 2018 classification scheme for periodontal and peri-implant diseases and the S3 Level Clinical Practice Guideline for the treatment of Stage I–III periodontitis, recently released by the European Federation of Periodontology. The FDI Digital Disease Profile Assessment tool will soon be available in French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Simplified Chinese, Dutch and Italian.

This will be followed by practical guidance on subgingival instrumentation and on when to apply adjunctive therapies, as well as when and how a surgical intervention is required to treat periodontitis patients.

Finally, webinar attendees will understand the critical role that dentists and patients should play in effective delivery of supportive periodontal therapy and care in daily practice.

Learning objectives:

  • Understand and use the FDI Digital Disease Profile Assessment
  • Improve subgingival instrumentation and know when to apply adjunctive therapies
  • Know when and how a surgical periodontal intervention is needed
  • Understand the critical roles of dentists and patients for supportive periodontal care in daily practice
