Human Papillomavirus (HPV): Integrating oral health for prevention
HPV is one of the world’s most widespread viral infections and a major cause of cervical and oral cancers and related conditions. Despite its broad impact, HPV prevention is rarely integrated into oral healthcare, leaving gaps in awareness, early detection, and referral.
This project addresses the problem by strengthening global HPV prevention and calling for the inclusion of oral health professionals in national policies and care pathways.
Project goals
- Drive advocacy efforts to strengthen the role of oral health professionals in HPV prevention.
- Develop policy recommendations to integrate HPV prevention into oral health services.
Guided by insights from FDI’s multi-country survey, the project will drive policy alignment, build professional capacity through evidence-based education, and create targeted resources that support vaccination, early detection, and coordinated cancer prevention strategies.
